Being 20 is like walking into a library. With an eager eye, you first spot lots of books without knowing what's inside them. The themes, the titles, the covers or the “reputations” draw us in; we want to read everything. Then, sitting at a table, we leaf through them, we discover, we experiment, we love, we fall in love, we are disappointed, we close them before the end, we don't even try. Our initial selection is whittled down with each bad experience. Our eyes, though they would like to read two or three books at once, are forced to choose, to leave themes unfinished as our eyelids close. When we leave the library, we take with us only those few precious books that are dear to us, those that truly move us, those that define us.
TRAVERSÉE is a piece of music theatre in which words dance with music in a constant dialogue. Through the performers' bodies, this original work embodies the confinement, loneliness and anxieties one may feel when faced with choice and the weight of responsibility. Facing oneself, facing others, facing the strangeness of situations: how can one survive in a world of a thousand reference points?
Inspired by Lukas Bärfuss's Parzival, the thought of Camus and Nietzsche, and also by Surrealism, Les Musidiens invite us on a labyrinthine, chaotic journey in which music, poetry and bodies attract as much as they disconcert. Why not join their dance?
Brought together especially for the Traversée project, the artists of the troupe are active in several artistic fields at once, particularly music, theatre and writing. The troupe was built on complementarity and sharing, the idea being to create a piece together so that everyone contributes something of their own – their own singular artistic experience – but also so that these creative energies, so often isolated at university (how many literature students write or compose on their own!), can come together here and nourish one another. All the Musidiens are full co-creators of the project, from its concept to its staging.
