Never Gate

A psychoactive film, 2022, Switzerland, 22′

Assistant director
Never Gate

A raging preacher in a black lamé disco suit (Silverio) hurling abuse at some kind of human parasites in a rubbish dump at the end of the world; an eccentric community preparing a global telepathy summit; a hive whose queen (Lydia Lunch) chants her anger; “earworms” fallen from space (created by Otto Von Schirach) broadcasting subversive messages.

Never Gate is a strange “crazy trip”, shot mainly in “broken English” (and in several European languages), heavily infused with spirals of lysergic fantasy, depicting an extraordinary, agitated menagerie in a residence that has nothing to envy a psychiatric hospital – unless that is what it really is?

Along the way we also meet Khan of Finland (“The Acid King”), The Monsters (Pizza Delivery), Jean-Luc Verna and Jean-Louis Costes as wrathful deities, Gianni Motti in the middle of a global telepathy summit, Vidya Gastaldon as a disembodied yogi, The Young Gods in their laboratory, Nathanael Esh compulsively wrapping the objects around him, Noise Populi pressing vinyl, Poulpo (aka LPLPO) in microscopic form, The Wild Panthers on the prowl, Abraham Poincheval shut inside a synthetic stone, and DJ Marcelle busy trying to restore the power after recurring short circuits.

We also discover a number of contemporary artworks scattered throughout this audiovisual mille-feuille, drawing together in a single whirlwind some of the most supercharged artistic energies of the global underground.

The artists and works originally programmed for the art event GET A NERVE have now become the film's main characters.

NEVER GATE is an anagram of GET A NERVE, which is an anagram of ARTGENEVE..
