Animaux

Suite sur le Vivant, part 1 · Julien Mages

DramaturgyAssistant director
Animaux

The story takes place some thirty years from now: the last representative of a species of large wild mammal dies before two people watching it, a woman and a man. Its tragic disappearance, over the course of the play, accompanies the death throes of words, to unearth silence…

ANIMAUX is a theatrical reflection on humankind, but above all an ode to nature and to animals. It digresses on the end of our world and of the living world, as predicted by many scientists and thinkers.

For this play, Julien Mages drew on scientific and philosophical thinking about animal and environmental causes, as well as on his passion for animals. He wanted to stay as close as possible to the poem in building the project. The musicality of the words and the style shift at times from naive lyricism to the most concrete, dense dialogue, uncompromising about the absolute domination of one species over all others. It is a play with neither message nor moral, but open to describing the living world and its death throes
